Orfanato Niños de Cristo was founded in 1993 by Sonia Hane, a young Dominican woman who was living in Bethlehem, PA with her husband and 2 children. She felt a calling to return to the Dominican Republic to open a home devoted to orphaned, indigent, homeless children. Sonia started what is today Orfanato Niños de Cristo in the town of La Romana. Currently there are 142 children in residence: 115 girls and 27 boys. They range in age from 6 months to 20 years old.
