The Altos de Chavón Regional Museum of Archaeology, which opened in 1981 and receives thousands of visitors each year, documents the important Indian legacy of the island of Santo Domingo. The Museum is part of the Altos de Chavón Cultural Center Foundation, a not-for-profit cultural and educational institution that for decades has contributed to the enrichment of the intellectual, artistic, and cultural panorama of the Dominican Republic.
