Grupo de Desarrollo Rural Nacional (GRAN) is the first organization in the Dominican Republic that begins to work with organic agriculture, supporting to small and average producers. This occurs in Rio Limpio near of border with Haití, by initiative of the Group of Rural Development of Suecia ( Arbetsgruppen För Landsbygdsutveckling, AFL), by inspiration of them and with the economic supporting, since 1989 promoting the organic/biodynamic agriculture based on coffee with shade and biodiversity of cultivations working with producers located at the mountainous zone and of slopes in order to conserve and enrich the soils, keep an environment healthier, and obtain better life conditions for women and sons of accompanied producers.
